Orphans are those members of the community who lost their father or both the parents before reaching the historic period of adulthood and become alone in the creation or in the population. In Islam, there is a great emphasize on the rights of Orphans. From the very beginning Islam always enforced people to provide protection, attention, love and respect to Orphans. In Qur’an there are many verses that are emphasizing methods that how to treat Orphans.
Allah(swt) Waxaa uu inoo cadeyey khayrka badan ee laga helo daryeelka iyo xanaaneynta agoonta iyo ciqaabta iyo cadaabta lagu muteysto dayacada agoomaha iyo dulmiga la dulmiyo agoomaha Ayaad badan oo quraanka kariimka ahna waxaa uu Allah (swt) inoogu sheegay arimahaasi sida:
“And they feed for the love of ALLAH, the poor, the orphans, and the captive” (Qur’an, Al-Nisa.8)
“Serve God, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers. The companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For God loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious.” (4: 036)
“They ask thee what they should spend (In charity). Say: Whatever ye spend that is good, is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for.” (2:215)
“…. As also concerning the children who are weak and oppressed: that ye stand firm for justice to orphans. There is not a good deed which ye do, but God is well-acquainted therewith.” (4:127)
“They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive -(Saying): We feed you for the sake of Allah alone, no reward do we desire from you or thanks. We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord.”(76: 7-10)
“Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a Fire into their own bodies: They will soon be enduring a Blazing Fire.” (4:10)
“…Come not near to the orphan’s property, except to improve…”(6:152)
“To orphans restore their property (When they reach their age), nor substitute (your) worthless things for (their) good ones; and devour not their substance (by mixing it up) with your won. For this is indeed a great sin.” (4: 2)
“Test the orphans till they reach the marriageable age; then, if ye find them of sound judgment, deliver over unto them their fortune. And devour it not by squandering and in haste lest they should grow up Whoso (of the guardians) is rich, let him abstain generously (from taking of the property of orphans); and whoso is poor let him take thereof in reason (for his guardianship). And when ye deliver up their fortune unto orphans, have (the transaction) witnessed in their presence…” (4:6)
“And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. Nay! But you do not honor the orphan. Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor…” (89:15-18)
“Have you considered him who calls the judgment a lie? That is the one who treats the orphan with harshness.” (107:1-2)
Sidoo kale Axaadis badan oo ka sugnaatey Rasuulkeena Maxamed(SCW) ayaa iyaguna inoo sharaxaya doorka agoomaha ee mujtamaca islamka ah waxaana ka mida xadiisyadan:
The beloved prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) also emphasizes on the care of orphans and also declares Jannah (Paradise) for them who are treating orphans with love and mercy.
“I and the caretaker of the orphan will enter paradise together like this, raising (by way of illustration) his forefinger and middle finger jointly leaving no space in between.” (Saheeh-al-Bukhari).
“One who cares for widows and the poor is like those who fight in the way of Allah or those who spend their days fasting and their nights praying.” [Agreed upon, also in Adab al-Mufrad of Imaam Al-Bukhari in chapter “The Virtue of Those Who Care for Orphans”]
Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The person who strives on behalf of the widows and poor is like those who strive in the way of Allah and like those who fast in the day and pray at night.”
A man once came to the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu`alaihiwasallam, and complained that he feels hardness in his heart. The Messenger of Allah said, what translated means, “Would you like that your heart becomes soft and that you acquire what you need? Be merciful with the orphan, pat his head and feed him from what you eat. This will soften your heart, and enable you to get what you need.” [At-Tabaraanee & As-Silsilah as-Saheehah].
